Unicorns take the train to emphatic victory at Burnt Ash

After a disappointing defeat the previous week against Knowle Park, the Unicorns visited Burnt Ash 7s Development, looking to get a positive result - they hadn't scored a point since a 1-0 win against Canterbury on 8 November, and now sat 11th in the table, only spared by goal difference. Repeating a result similar to the first fixture, a 5-0 victory back in the early days of the season was imperative to climb up the table. Before that, the boys had to get to the pitch in Sidcup, and so half the squad made the unorthodox trip via train to Albany Park, before walking a further half-mile to the Hurstmere School.

The bonding session clearly worked a treat, as the boys flew out of the trap. As the sun shone and bathed the pitch in warmth, the boys lit up the opposition defence. Just 36 seconds into the game, the Unicorns caused mayhem and havoc in the D before "Simon" F placed the ball into the goal. Within five minutes, it was 3-0, as Oli B scored two goals. Burnt Ash didn't know what hit them, and the Unicorns were a little in disbelief with how the game was going, but things started to even out, as the home side made some attacks, with Andy Blackman making some saves to keep the opposition out. The boys however kept on attacking, with an onslaught of the Burnt Ash D, scoring a further three before half-time, and it potentially could have been a few more. Edward and Jasper each scored before Oli B completed his hat-trick. The game went into half-time with the Unicorns leading an emphatic 6-0.

In to the second half, Burnt Ash worked harder, and were rewarded for their efforts, gaining their first short corner of the game, which resulted in the award of a penalty-flick. The home side duly converted, and the clean-sheet was wiped out - perhaps the only blemish of the day for the Unicorns. The boys however weren't done, Edward, Stu Marnham and Oli B getting a goal each in the second half, resulting in a 9-1 win their best result of the season so far!

Back at the Burnt Ash clubhouse, the boys celebrated their win over a curry kindly provided by the hosts. The boys awarded Edward Attacker of the day for his blistering work, 4 assists and two goals. Himinish was awarded Defender of the Day, after tying in the votes with Tom. This just left the return journey home, as the train gang grew, with the boys in a joyous mood.

Next week, the Unicorns host K Sports, who narrowly stole a 1-0 win in the first fixture. This time round the boys will be confident of getting goals on the board and a winning scoreline.
