The Unicorns visited Rochester for an early game against bottom of the league Old Williamsonians. The side were however short of many players, the tail weekend of the extended half-term break denying a core group of attacking threat. As such, the visitors came with a squad of only 11.

The game started with plenty of back and forth, but not much action in either D, and the game had the feel of a 0-0 draw. Old Williamsonians had the early possession, before being awarded two short corners in relatively short succession. While the first amounted to nothing, the second broke the deadlock. The Unicorns then played hard to make some running, but were unable to generate too many opportunities during the remainder of the half. Into the second half, the game carried on in much the same way, lots of the ball in the middle but not much going forward. One flashpoint in the middle though saw a yellow card and 5 minute suspension for Tony Hickson saw the team reduced to 10. Once restored back to the full compliment, the Unicorns scored, Joe Coelho pouncing on a poor backpass from the Old Williamsonians defence, allowing the guest attacker - making his Unicorns debut for the season - to run with the ball from the left hand side, before burying it into the right hand corner - 1-1 - game on! From here, the game became stretched, and tiredness in the Unicorns grew, no subs to give the boys, and grow-ups, a rest. As the minutes ticked down, Old Williamsonians had more of the ball, and with only one to spare, the Unicorns were unable to clear the ball, and a tame shot was able to get past Mike Cooke, who earlier made some frantic saves to keep his side in the game. 2-1 down, with not much left on the clock. One opportunity for an attack, but that was thwarted, and so the hosts picked up their first win of the season.

Much credit to both clubs in the way they are supporting their development teams, the adults on either side not trying to run the show, and letting the boys play. The Unicorns left feeling frustrated they didn't secure the draw, but knowing an opportunity to get a win at the reverse fixture.
