Hockey match reports
The 3’s arrived at Marden for the afternoon start with most of their midfield unavailable, having lost Mason and Tom to the 2s and Chip and Mike unavailable! Even our goalkeeper was new to the team. We were also hampered by road closures that saw late arrivals; it was looking ominous.
The game got underway with Marden starting the brighter, they moved the ball quickly amongst their midfield and attack and created several early chances leading to an early conversion before GW had barely ventured into the opposition’s half. On the restart much of the same followed and but for some last ditch defending and super hero goalkeeping GW would have been 4 or 5 nil down.
GW gradually grew into the game and began to create their own chances and begin to win more of the possession. At half time GW were only 1-0 down and still in the game.
GW’s midfield, led by Darren began to win more possession and help transfer the ball from the resolute defence up towards the deadly attack
The second half was a much more evenly battled affair with players working hard for each other and getting into the tackles with more venom. GW looked threatening on the counter attack and Amit made a penetrating run that put Zig through and GW drew level. GW began to raise their game and another counter attack saw Zig, put through by Franklin,  one on one with the keeper and despite looking as if he had taken the ball too wide he clashed with the keep and went down, penalty! Franklin converted the flick and GW now had the lead.
With 8 minutes to go GW added a third to their tally when Zig found Franklin who converted to ease the victory home. Marden were not finished yet though and with some rowdy support from the clubhouse supports they continued to press. They were finally rewarded with only a couple of minutes left when they got a second.
The final result was a 2-3 victory to GW which solidifies their 4th place position in the league.

MoM was Barry making his debut in goal and if he performs like he did for the rest of the season then GW will be hard to score against.
