The race for promotion!

The pre game chat was calm with the main message being to go out, have fun and play our hockey with all of the pressure on them. Cliftonville started the game very quickly showing why they're 2nd in the league and it paid off after a well worked goal after about 10 mins. GW switched on quickly and put the pressure back on with Jesse being untackleable (yes that's a word) up the left and Daniels great passing on the right.

GWs hard work won a short corner on the brink of half time which was deflected into the roof of the net perfectly by captain Aaron Elliott after top assister JJ played a perfect pass. Half time the chat was very brief, keep doing what we are doing because the performance is there. GW came up firing quick after another short corner saw Mike expertly slipped the ball to Sumeet who fired it into the bottom right keeper. Both teams had chances after with neither able to convert one of them.

Matty Lucas seemed to be everywhere giving the opposition nothing and clearly frustrated them. With 10 minutes to go and nothing working, a slightly mistimed tackle from boothy led to a completely unnecessary reaction from cliftonvilles player trying to square up and seemingly headbutt him earning himself a yellow and boothy a green both deservedly. GW were dropping deeper and deeper as cliftonville were throwing everything at the impenetrable GW wall of Rich and Si. Then in the dying embers a quick break seemed on.

JJ with the ball on his own 23 found Mike inside the oppositions half, after masons brilliant tactical advice, with just 2 players to beat. That he did, then rounding the goalkeeper and smashing it into the net from the top of the D seemed all 3 points for GW and put them right in the fight for promotion and ready for them to slip up. That wasn't all though as Mason earned himself DOTD for leaving his kidney beans that he is "allergic to" during teas. But on a positive note that was one of the best performances of the season and left themselves full of confidence that they can go and win the rest of their remaining fixtures.
