A cold, wet and dark 4pm pushback in Eltham saw GW take on Burnt Ash in a top half of the table clash. Gravesham and Wellcome started the game strong manoeuvring the ball very nicely in all areas of the pitch however a quick Burnt Ash counterattack put them 1 0 up against the run of play. It didn't take long for Gravesham and Welcome to respond with Silverton finding Bonner in the D who thumped in an equaliser. GW then won a p flick after great build up play and with everyone else walking away it left Silverton to take.
The keeper looking to have went the wrong way managed to get his leg to it and kept the game level. It didn't take long for GW to continue the pressure as a well worked short corner routine found Matty Lucas who slotted it to put GW 2 1 up. Burnt Ash upped the tempo after that and found an equaliser after a scramble in the D. The half time talk was all positive with GW being on top of the game and unfortunate not to be winning.
Burnt Ash were awarded a flick not long into the 2nd half after a short corner was blocked on the post by Booth but then dropped dead onto his foot. The Burnt Ash player slotted the flick making it impossible to save and putting burnt Ash 3-2 up. Lock then managed to earn himself a green card for his only foul of the game which still earnt him DOTD. GW still full of belief kept pushing for an equaliser through more great hockey but we're unable to break through.
Then Burnt Ash were awarded another flick after Tung committed a foul in the D. The same player stepped up to take it but it was incredibly saved by McManus keeping GW in the game, not for the first time, rightfully earning himself MOTM. However the clock ticked down and GW were unable to get a result from the game but will be very pleased with the hockey they were playing and full of confidence for the second half of the season.
