Gravesham & Wellcome 2s continued their fine start to the season with a commanding 4–1 victory over Old Williamsonians 4s, maintaining their 100% record at the top of the league.
The home side began the match in dominant fashion, applying relentless pressure on the visitors from the first whistle. Aaron Elliott came agonisingly close when his effort struck the post, and Sumeet Dhinsa also forced an excellent save from the Old Wills goalkeeper, who kept his side in the game during the opening exchanges.
Despite GWHC’s early dominance, Old Williamsonians took the lead against the run of play with a well-taken penalty corner, making it 1–0 midway through the first half. The setback only spurred Gravesham & Wellcome on, and five minutes before the break, Michael Silverton showed great control and composure to slot home the equaliser, bringing the score to 1–1 at half-time.
A focused half-time team talk saw GWHC emerge determined to raise their intensity, and their second-half performance reflected exactly that. The hosts dominated territory and possession, and their well-drilled penalty corner routines proved decisive.
First, Jordan Jenkins’ flick rattled the post, but James Bonner reacted quickest in the ensuing scramble to give GWHC the lead. Moments later, Jenkins’ next penalty corner effort took a fortunate deflection off a defender and found its way into the bottom corner for 3–1.
The scoring was rounded off with another slick penalty corner routine — Jenkins finding Aaron Elliott at the back post to cap off a well-worked move and seal the points.
The final whistle confirmed another comeback victory for GWHC, their fourth consecutive win of the season — three of which have come from behind — keeping them top of the league and full of confidence heading into their next fixture.
