GW showed their hockey prowess from the very start. The first half was a near-total possession masterclass for GW, with Herne Bay afforded only a few attacking chances. However, for the initial twenty minutes, it seemed Herne Bay hadn't even truly turned up. The goals quickly followed: Chris netted a drag flick, Alex nearly shattered the backboard, and Kyle 'The Bull' Rowe showcased his expertise in the art of the delicate tap-in—though his overall gameplay was anything but delicate.
By the end of the half, The Bull had unfortunately taken out a Herne Bay centre back, leading to a bloody stoppage. This timeout didn't deter GW, who scored two more before the break, courtesy of Kyran and Oliver. Herne Bay managed one final push before the half-time whistle, which, of course, blew on a short corner. Despite Herne Bay flooding the outside of the D, they couldn't breach GW's mighty defence.
The second half was a more even affair initially. Herne Bay pressed hard and created a few whimsical chances at goal—much like GK Keaton Gates' cartwheeling shenanigans—but nothing truly threatening. After the first fifteen minutes, however, GW found their rhythm again. Kyran scored, followed by Alex, and then Kyran again with a p-flick to secure his hat-trick.
All the while, Gates was a commanding, shouting, cartwheeling presence, saving everything in his path. The only other threatening shot was a deflection that was swiftly swabbed away by the athletic keeper. The final whistle blew, and GW had secured an emphatic 8-0 victory.
