The game started evenly, with GW enjoying early possession and creating a few half-chances after some great play in the midfield. GW earned a penalty flick after Kyle Rowe got taken out by the keeper after a great aerial from Ryan Ames into the D, which unfortunately was not converted.
Despite GW enjoying a lot of possession, it was New Beccs that struck first after a well-worked short corner routine, which led to them breaking the deadlock and going 1-0 up just before halftime.
The second half began with a shaky start for GW, as they conceded a short corner early on. After a couple of good saves from Keaton Gates, GW failed to clear the ball and New Beccs capitalised on this by scoring a deflection to put them 2-0 up. The pressure was kept on GW as the New Beccs striker broke through, one-on-one with Keaton, who pulled off a superb save to deny them.
GW didn’t give up and pushed for a goal to give us some hope, pressing the New Beccs defence very high, but were unable to break through. The game ended after a well-won short corner from Kyran Pender after taking advantage of a free hit, but they failed to convert the chance, ending in a disappointing 2-0 loss. Special mention to the Tenacious Chihuahua (Zak R) who didn’t stop running all game!
