Thurrock vs GWHC2s (Friendly)
GWHC2s travelled to Thurrock for their opening friendly on a hot and humid day to dust off the summer cobwebs.
An encounter that was always more about the performance than the result; although the score-line would not suggest it the game at times was a closely fought encounter.
With early pressure coming from GWHC and chances coming through Ash and Joe it was Thurrock who would eventually take the lead 16 minutes in.
Quarterly water breaks and 7 minute sub rotations were hoped to help keep GWHC fresh but as time went on the game would begin to slip away. Some great defending from Eren Basch would help keep Thurrock at bay and the team wouldn’t give up despite goals by Thurrock either side of half time. They would get one back early in the second half through Captain Aaron Elliott. A quick thinking 16 from Derren found Aaron in space who’s one-two with Danny proved defence splitting before Aaron would turn away and finish on the reverse, hitting the post before spinning across the line.
At 4-1 down the game was still on.
Thurrock however had other ideas and would go on to get a couple more following some mistakes by GWHC both in front of goal and in defence. Young legs working hard in the middle from Joe and Harry McCann were not able to prevent tiredness from creeping in.
Fantastic running from Kai Gunner would see him popping up covering our CB at one end of the pitch before moments later being the man to make the killer pass at the end of a hugely impressive team goal. A multitude of passes culminated with an intelligent and unselfish lay-off from Kai to the top-D for a rushing Amit Ubhi to launch the ball into the roof of the net.
Thurrock would answer with one final goal before GWHC would dominate the last 5 but to no avail.
Lots of lessons to take away and plenty to be positive.
Final score Thurrock 7 – 2 GWHC2s.
